Role overview

Reporting to the General Manager People, Safety and Culture the Payroll and Systems Lead will be responsible for delivering a highly efficient and compliant payroll service. The emphasis will be on ensuring systems and processes are in place to produce accurate, timely, legally compliant and responsive outcomes to the organisation that are continually enhanced/improved.

The position will also be actively involved in the optimisation of payroll and HR systems, processes and technology.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Service Provision

  • Drive the provision of a customer focused consistent, accurate and timely end to end payroll service
  • Interpretation of all applicable Industrial instruments including Awards
  • Ensure that payroll services support and drive the People ,Safety & Culture objectives and business plan
  • Participate in payroll audits and reviews; using data and recommendations to enhance service offering and streamline and simplify processing.
  • Lead and act as key liaison with CCSA’s external salary packaging provider and administer calculation and payment of all salary packaging contributions 

Financial/Reporting and Compliance

  • Provide accurate and timely reporting and information to assist with People, Safety and Culture and broader business decision making.
  • Ensure that payroll services are legally compliant and in line with Cancer Council SA policies, procedures, Industrial Instruments and audit outcomes.
  • Undertake data analytics and reviews to ensure that all payments are made in line with the relevant Awards, Employment Contracts and other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to support annual budget planning and development

Project Delivery/Process Improvement

  • Proactively identify and implement payroll and related process improvements that drive improved customer outcomes and efficiencies.
  • Lead implementation of payroll technological projects and improvements in conjunction with Digital team.
  • Provide training, upskilling and education to the business regarding use of tools and technologies to drive simplification.

Our ideal candidate will bring

  • Extensive and demonstrated experience in payroll functions and services
  • Thorough understanding of payroll legislation and legal compliance
  • Experience with Chris21/other payroll systems essential
  • Demonstrated prior experience in project management, automation, continuous improvement and simplification in payroll processes and processing
  • Demonstrated understanding of and strong practical knowledge of payroll systems, and experience of implementing and managing payroll software systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Legislative and award compliance – ability to interpret relevant awards and legislation
  • Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate sound judgement and decision making

  • The successful applicant must be a non-smoker.
  • Intra/inter-state travel, out of hours and weekend work may be required
  • Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory police check and may require a further Department of Human Services clearance.
  • All staff are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration or have an exemption that has been endorsed by the Chief Public Health Officer or their delegate.
