About Us

Cancer Council SA’s vision is a cancer free future. Every minute, every hour, every day, we’re getting closer through impactful research, the delivery of cancer prevention activities, education and advocacy programs and providing support to people affected by cancer right here in South Australia.

Cancer Council is the only charity to help people from the point of diagnosis through to treatment and survivorship. We are proud to have served the community for 90 years and have an enviable reputation as one of South Australia’s most trusted charities.

About the Role

The primary focus of this role is to provide professional evidence-based counselling to people affected by cancer, their families and carers. Counselling is provided face-to-face, online and by phone.

The role may also support other Cancer Council support services, where the focus is on improving the quality of life for people impacted by cancer. This can include group work, presentations to health professionals and consumers, and/or providing training for Cancer Council employees and volunteers in areas of expertise.

About You

Our Counsellors are responsible for ensuring optimal counselling outcomes for people impacted by cancer, evidenced by active participation in clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and quality improvement activities. We are looking for Tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, or counselling, and ideally registered and/or membership with relevant professional bodies.

To be successful in this role you will be highly motivated, have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and have strong organisational and time management skills. You will also have understanding and competence in trauma informed practice, and experience using several evidence-based interventions including grief, loss, and bereavement counselling.

This role is being offered as a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position with flexibility in times and days to be worked – including the option for 2 people to share this position as 2 days each. We also have a part time (0.5FTE) fixed term contract being offered for 12 months.
